PERPETUATING CULTURE // SHARING ALOHA
The parent organization of DAWSON, Hawaiian Native Corporation (HNC) is a Hawai’i-based community impact organization that benefits our Native Hawaiian culture, community, and history by supporting initiatives that sustain our culture and our well-being.
A NATIVE HAWAIIAN ORGANIZATION (NHO)
Founded in February 2004, HNC is controlled entirely by Native Hawaiians and is federally-certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as a “Native Hawaiian Organization” (NHO).
NHOs are nonprofit organizations authorized by the SBA to participate in the 8(a) Business Development program, allowing them to establish ownership of firms approved as NHO-Owned Small Businesses. As part of the Native 8(a) program, an NHO’s business activities will principally benefit Native Hawaiians.
NHOs’ efforts to create economic impact for the Native Hawaiian community can include, for example, developing workforce training opportunities, building capacity in emerging industries, and supporting community programs.
